A witch locked Rapunzel in a high tower with no door. Only her golden plait, long as a river, hung down.

Each day the witch called, "Rapunzel, let down your

hair!" and climbed the hair rope.

One day a prince heard her singing — a song like sunrise. He learned the words and called too.

But the witch discovered the trick and cut the plait! Yet love helped them find each other beyond the forest.
